First Aid

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 requires all employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable First Aid to be given to staff if they are injured or become ill at work.

What is considered "adequate" and "appropriate" will depend on the circumstances in your workplace. Once you have established what your First Aid provisions need to be (which should be done on a per site basis), i.e. who the First Aid Responsible Persons are, the number of First Aiders you need, First Aid boxes and their locations and contents, etc., you can then enter these details onto TAM.

Managing your First Aid Arrangements

After you have done this, TAM will help ensure that your First Aid arrangements are properly maintained and that your staff are kept fully aware of what these arrangements are.

TAM does this by ensuring that:

  • You always have at least the legal requirement of one Appointed Person in place or, alternatively, the correct number of Appointed Persons if you yourself have specified a higher number for this on TAM

Log details for a check carried out on the First Aid Boxes. The records of all these logs are automatically stored on TAM for easy access. TAM will send the person responsible for First Aid an ATAG ATAG/AGTAGs - Automatically
    Generated TAG.
    This is a Task automatically
    generated by TAM.
to train up new persons for this role, should the actual number not meet the required number as stated by you.
  • You have the correct number of trained First Aiders in place if you have specified that you need one or more First Aiders

Again, TAM will send the person responsible for First Aid an ATAG ATAG/AGTAGs - Automatically
    Generated TAG.
    This is a Task automatically
    generated by TAM.
to train up new persons for this role, should the actual number of First Aiders not meet the required number as stated by you.
  • Your First Aid boxes are located where they are supposed to be and that they are correctly stocked

TAM will create a Checks and Logs for the person responsible for the First Aid boxes to inspect these at intervals specified by you, and to log these inspections on TAM so that a record is kept
  • Your staff know where the First Aid boxes are, as well as who the Appointed Persons and First Aiders are and how they can be contacted
All your staff can find important information about your First Aid arrangements on TAM under My H&S
This information is posted on TAM in a couple of places so that each employee can easily locate it.

In short, once you have put your First Aid arrangements on TAM (which is a quick and easy process), then TAM will ensure that the arrangements are properly maintained as per your requirements going forward. From then on, you won't need to worry about this aspect of Health and Safety compliance, as you will be immediately alerted in the event that there are any failings in this regard.

First Aid Log Book

TAM provides you with a First Aid Log Book where any First Aid given can be accounted for as well who provided the First Aid. If any medicine was given out, this can also be specified in the First Aid Log Book as well as details of who handed out the medicine. Entries can made directly into the First Aid Log Book on indirectly via an Accident Report.

Keeping track of staff’s Special Medical Conditions

TAM helps you keep track of any Special Medical Conditions that staff may have and make them easily accessible for all First Aiders and Users with the relevant access privilege to TAM in case First Aid is given. There is also a clear audit trail of anyone accessing the Special Medical Conditions of an employee to deter abuse of this information. Management can enter details of an employee’s Special Medical Condition, but employees that are Users on TAM can themselves also enter, edit or view these details themselves.
