Based on the HSE'sThe "Health and Safety Executive",

requirements for the Health and Safety Policy, it is clear that they want this policy in place in order to establish who is responsible for what aspects of Health and Safety in your organisation. There is also little doubt that the HSE'sThe "Health and Safety Executive",

sees this as a very important document, and it is likely to be one of the first things they will ask to see if there has been an incident in your workplace.

Many companies create potential trouble for themselves with the Health and Safety Policy. Two common mistakes we have seen made are, firstly, some businesses overcomplicate their Policy and, in doing so, create potential contradictions or shortcomings as to what is actually being done about Health and Safety in their business

A second common mistake is to produce a hardcopy of the Health and Safety Policy, which is then put in a drawer and forgotten about. The company then fails to keep the document up-to-date to reflect, for example, changes in personnel, etc.
